Crab Apple Frenzy

Cedar Waxwing • Susquehanna Riverlands • October

← Back to Bird Stories
On a crisp October morning at the Susquehanna Riverlands, I spotted a restless flock of Cedar Waxwings moving between tall trees and a crab apple near the lake. As I approached, the scene exploded into motion—birds swooping in, grabbing fruit, and darting back out in quick succession. I kept shooting through the chaos, capturing far more frames than I thought I would ever need. Later, reviewing the images, it became clear just how important that instinct was. Moments like this—fast, unpredictable, and full of energy—are a perfect reminder: when action unfolds, always take more photos than you think you will need.
